Product Introduction

Product Overview

The PCHG-36 is a 36-inch gas filter-separator cartridge from PECO‘s PCHG Series, designed for natural gas, manufactured gas, and other non-corrosive gases including nitrogen, carbon dioxide, propane, and butane. It is widely used in gas gathering stations, compressor stations, distribution stations, and terminal facilities. The PCHG series is made using a patented process that provides increased flow, high efficiency, and effective removal of contaminants.

As the longest standard model in the PCHG family, the PCHG-36 offers the highest contaminant holding capacity and the longest potential service life. This makes it the preferred choice for mainline transmission applications, large compressor stations, and other high-volume installations where minimizing downtime and maintenance frequency is a priority.

PCHG cartridges can be used in PECO Series 75 and Series 85 vessels, as well as several competitor filter-separator vessels of similar design. The synthetic construction is an environmentally friendly product and an excellent upgrade option to traditional fiberglass cartridges.

Filtration Media Technology

The PCHG-36 utilizes high-performance depth filtration media with a spiral-wound construction. Media layers are thermally bonded and spiral-wound to form a conical helix pattern, creating a unique multidirectional, tortuous flow path. This design creates a true gradient depth filter that increases residence time for contaminant removal while maintaining porosity and permeability through the media.

The absence of glue or binders in the construction ensures excellent chemical compatibility with a wide range of gas stream chemistries. The open pore structure maintains permeability while trapping particles, providing stable pressure drop characteristics throughout the element’s service life.

Applications

  • City Gate stations: Ensure gas quality before distribution

  • Compressor & turbine suction: Protect compressor valves from abrasive contaminants

  • Contact towers (inlet & overhead): Remove contaminants before absorption processes

  • Custody transfer fuel gas: Prevent meter damage from particulates

  • Gas distribution & transmission: Remove pipe scale, rust, and welding slag

  • Gas treating & dehydration: Remove molecular sieve dust and iron sulfides

  • Landfill gas: Purify gas for downstream treatment

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between PCHG-36 and traditional fiberglass cartridges?
A: PCHG-36 uses polyester depth media with a multidirectional, tortuous flow path creating a true gradient depth filter, offering higher contaminant loading and longer service life. The synthetic construction is environmentally friendly and represents an excellent upgrade option to traditional fiberglass cartridges.

Q2: What filtration accuracy options are available for PCHG-36?
A: Options range from 0.3μm to 10μm. For applications with precision equipment, 5μm or 10μm is recommended. For filtering iron sulfide particles, 0.3μm is suggested.

Q3: When should the PCHG-36 be replaced?
A: Replace when pressure differential reaches 12–15 PSID (0.8–1.0 bar). Maximum element differential pressure is 50 PSID with core. The extended length means service intervals are typically longer than shorter models under similar conditions.

Q4: Will LEFILTER’s PCHG-36 fit my existing filter housing?
A: Yes. The PCHG-36 can be used in PECO Series 75 and Series 85 vessels, as well as several competitor filter-separator vessels of similar design. The 4.5“ OD × 36” dimensions and DOE end cap configuration ensure compatibility.
